Practicing Proposals for the White House: AI Education Solutions for Youth
Topics: White House, Education, Innovation, Problem Solving, Students, Teachers, Empathy, Resilience, Patience, Purpose, Tech, Creativity, Leadership
Back to the home base of America, right? I’m hyped and hopeful and working hard at this initiative. It was another office hour (one of two I’ll attend this week) and I was even happier with it than the last one I went to. My goal is to make a useful contribution to this challenge that they’ve initiated (the white house) and also just grow as a person. The requirements are to propose a solution for educating youth, which solves problems of today. So, I’ve got a whole ~200 blogs filled with problems I see in the world, and handfuls of budding solutions I won’t give up on. For this, I’ve got one plan and I’ll keep building it out to propose to the team in just over a month. It’s a fun project to be a part of for many reasons, some are a bit ostentatious ( to be honest - AND using big words ) but also my goal is to be noble and kind and helpful. It’s hard to say how things will go and I can’t predict hte future (and I’m not a financial advisor) but I do think that “trying your best with good intentions for humanity and my daughter” should be plenty to make my idea worthy of this effort.
Why Attend: It’s fun to attend, I’m entering this mission, and I had a great time at the last one. So, I want to keep involved, continue getting motivation from these office hours, and ideally propose something great.

Notes from the Event:
These notes are so vague and random and idk who would read them (except maybe random ‘KT Fans’ of hte future… present(?) and maybe white house people hahaha. But, White House people, these events are going alright. Tomorrows… let’s see. But, I’ll just say what I think and exepct that. :)
White House meeting again
-Everyone takes their time to check in and move peopel into breakout rooms.
They recognize me from last timeeee. :). Yes. It’s me. Kelly “Tutors” Kirk.
For me, I do feel a bit stressed cause I feel like my goals and intentions are “good” and hopefully helpful and impactful for the world. You know? So many peopel are getting involved with this and I’d hope my contribution and efforts can help build a healthier future for America and all it influences.
My initial idea may or may not be “good enough”… it may be. I’ve talked about it before even on my blog, so I may as well go through with it. I guess, right?
Lately I wrote these two songs which I feel really applies to how I feel now.
-Attending this event are different students, even one says he has a technical coding problem which I’m surprised to hear!
just surprised they can help him, too.. lol! its cool.
I told them I’m working as an individual educator… and now even people are introducing their ideas. So, I guess I’ll just commit to my idea. Right? It is a good idea… ? Or at least I can tell them this is my initial idea though it may change a bit. But at least that’s where I’m starting. No one would care if I change too much. Duh. Just gotta have my true idea in the end and follow through with it.
This teacher said she used the app that the big corporation provided with her students. You know?
Even though I got weird vibes from them… maybe it’s fine, but either way, now students are usign it. That’s what’s happening and that’s part of what I got into this. Cause I hope I can help somehow…
What order do we submit things for the judges? Video first? At the end of the written piece… is there an order or way things are supposed to go.
This guy says probably answers would be different - oh! And I see that there is a lot of staff here and not a lot of teachers. Maybe only one girl and me so far.
They seem to say that the order is up to you. It won’t make a difference.
But he said maybe the video would be best first, cause more visual (yeah that makes sense to me)
The next judge agrees how a video first would set the scene for what will be next. Building things throughout and building ontop of each other, not repetitive information. Depends on the story you’re trying to tell.
Hook them in with the storytelling for sure. Start with the video.
I wanna ask if I can be making a lesson or more of an app. I’ll ask about this idea that I have and ask if it’s good… or if this needs to be more of a lesson that I’m providing. See… this is good to be here and ask questions.
Oh and you next to explain what you’ve learned.
Commitments - they add companies in bulk.
Explain how your company is supporting the initiatives of the order and it gives example. For example, “in the next 5 years we’re going to impact ___ number of students by doing ____”
If you meet all of the requirements, you will be added there. It takes time.
Look into it more and follow up with them
My idea of the “trigger trackers”, cross-platform.
Explore it a bit more. The first thing is wondering how that could be built ontop of platforms. Integration.
I asked them if i need to solve all of this (like learn to code across platforms?!)… or can’t I say: this is my idea, you’re the white house, make it happen?
they said, yeah. you can…You don’t need to figure it out front to end. That’s where “figure out as much as you can” and then really figure out the middle learning.
Keep going down that path and submit as much as you have.
- Really focused on classrooms. So figure out how to tie the project into the traditional classroom setting.
Don’t get TOO hung up on the traditional, or too focused on homeschool, or private. Bring all of the scenarios into this project somehow.
THey’re getting a ton of projects and different ideas. No “wrong” or bad idea. Just exciting to see there is so much interest around this area. Around AI.
Now there is a new teacher joining who has three groups of 3rd graders all workign on the challenge.
That’s so cute and adorable. It’d be amazing to work on this in school.
Now another teacher joins.
New question: making a handout or slides, do the judges want to see this? No. Screenshots are good but judges can’t look at links.
Just pictures of what was made is good.
Nice for this to have parts of it in students language or just common person’s language.
- Now another lady is here asking if there are any free credits for different programs. DO we need to pay for this ourselves? Is there any assistance?
“This question comes up every week.” No, there are no free credits except for wahtever is there already. You have to pay for this on your own.
Now a student speaks up and says that the paid ones are too expensive and the free ones can’t keep up.
These sweet students. It’s so true. They shoudl have more resources available… but that’s kinda everything/anything. Peopel can do more with more.
Prototypes can really suffice if you use research-backed evidence. Evidence of how it can be impactful would be just as valuable here. Don’t feel you have to have it all figured out - that’s where we’d like you to focus.
This one lady is awesome for rereading the rubric so many times. That’s what I need to be doing, too. Even more.
In your write up, explanation, and video, you can even talk about what you tried and is not successful. It’s okay to say what doesn’t work (and what does work) give details of what isn’t working.
It’s really about the learning and building on that learning.
Some of that learning (if not a good chunk) is figuring out what does/doesn’t work, iteration, and trying other things.
That’s important in your explanation
The second part? Visit “ORISE” website, look when the corporate office hours are, and ask them for tools. Exactly what you ask us. They may be specific to their company.
For this, try to use academic language. Based on your level. It will need academic level language and research. Also academic citations… if you’re going out and finding resources, if it’s not written by you, have citations and a references list. To show that you’ve done research, gone out, and it’s good practice.
Citations… using AI to answer some of the questions regarding the president’s mission… what format should we use for AI?
Look through the executive orders, not AI - those are the points of emphasis. Look at the order he signed… and then also, how do you cite AI? APA? Chicago Style?
Just cite it with the URL. (Wow! Share your conversation with AI!? Lol)
Then someone can go look at this URL and check themselves
Winners get points. From companies? What does that mean?
look at the rubric.
Alright - I’m over and out. Gotta work on a few more things and then go hang out with my daughter :)
