Aging in the Age of Today
đ¤ˇââď¸ ESTIMATED READING TIME: ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX MINUTES
Disclaimer:
Everything below is a mix of what I observed and heard during the event. The goal isnât to pinpoint "who exactly said what," but to share (usually) an outsider's view and overall perspective on these industries. Iâm not here to act as a definitive firsthand sourceâreaders should do their own research. I hope this inspires you to attend events, explore new industries, and hear what leaders are presenting. These notes combine my observations with thoughts on how things could run smoother and how ideas connect (IMO). Iâm not an expert, you know? Just hanging out in the room with them. Enjoy!
Topics Covered: Aging, Science, Data Testing, Basically Cloned Virgin Mice, Pre-Aged Mice, Sex Difference in Aging, Measuring Frailty, Trends in Health, Early Life, Clinical Norms
Are you getting older? Me too! Right now, actually. So, letâs learn whatâs going on. Will lotions solve aging? Good nutrition? A pill? Magic? Iâm so curious to hear what is discussed at this event hahaha. I am extremely âbehind the timesâ in the topic of âagingâ. I guess that makes me âyoungâ in âaging-knowledgeâ years, huh? Itâs like dog-years.
Why Attend: Lunch? Learn? Yes! Two of my favorite things. Iâm usually not hungry in the mornings, but by lunch - Iâm itching for a bite. Plus, I want to live to be 140+. Just seems like if you play your cards right, itâd be not too bad. I hear so many people in their 60, 70,80âs say they feel better than they did in their 30âs. And into my 30âs, I feel WAY BETTER than my 20âs - most days. As long as I keep active. So, Iâd like to hear more and keep building momentum to a wonderful long life of purpose đ. Letâs glow up with the topic of growing up.

Notes from the Event:
TRAVEL:
The ride there was fun/funny - for the start, I saw it was maybe raining the moment I got outside, so then I ran back up the all of the stairs to grab my raincoat (which ran me late for the bus) so I took a lyft to the further-ahead station.
Then, the funny thing with the lyft driver is that AT first, a DIFFERENT lyft driver tried to pick me up, but I shooed him away cause his license plate said 30 not 31, so it was close, but not quite. Not my car- Shoo!
Then moments later I saw he was going to pick up another lady close by who was trying to get MY lyft driver. Then the two lyft drivers waved to each other, laughing over âlyft driver confusionâ or whatever. THEN I got into the correct car, laughing.
THEN I told my driver the story when I got in, how his car said 30 but the other said 31 so it wasnât him. THENNNN HE TOLD ME THAT GUY, the other driver - WAS HIS COUSIN đ. AND he didnât know their license plates were only one number apart hahahahah. Wild.
Then, I took the subway, then ran to the bus - got it within seconds!! Then, ended up arriving way too early, hahaha. So I got a mango at a local market that I LOVE (I like grocery stores that prioritize local food) and sat down to chill. The mangos were $3.49 EACH - and they were ALL different sizes, so I picked one of the biggest ones. Duh!
Plus, Iâve been learning more about the ânumber codesâ on food⌠if it only has four numbers.. four = youâre (eventually dead) on the floor! Try to avoid produce with only four numbers, that indicates itâs 100% chemical dependent.
Then ones that start with â9â you can wash away the chemicals.
(I think) the more numbers the better.
And this market also had some chalk and then like a solar-reactant art toys . So I grabbed a few here.
Lately, my daughter is really wanting more creative activities. So, I try to involve her with cooking her own meals, cleaning, kinda everything we try on her own (with my assistance).
I want us to start doing more hands-on crafts next.
Especially now that the weather is nice. We can have fun with chalk.
BUT WAIT - hahahha. As Iâm about to retype up my notes RIGHT NOW, Iâm back at the market/grocery store typing/working again- (was here before and after the event) - and now this guy (about my age) just dropped his MASHED POTATOES off of the side of the stairs!!!!! đ They just fell down off the stairs and crashed onto the floor, almost hitting me and a grocery store employee!! It was so funny and insane/out of nowhere.
Heâs on the speakerphone, going down the stairs, holding onto a to-go sushi box, and then a bowl of mashed potatoes on top. But then the bowl falls off and crashes through the dividers of the stairs and onto the floor right by me.
Then the guy goes, shouts to the person heâs speaking to on his speaker phone, âOh MY GOD!! I JUST DROPPED MY MASHED POTATOES, I JUST DROPPED MY MASHED POTATOES DOWN THE STAIRS, let me call you right back - let me clean this up. Let me call you right back!!â Then his friend comes up, he hands his friend the sushi box, and he comes down to clean up the mashed potatoes.
I told the story of what had happened to a mom and her two kids that had come and sat next to me. They were wondering what had happened and the guy was taking a while to come back and clean it up. So, I retold it all to them dramatically, to those kids too hahaha. Cuase the mom was nice and I know kids like dramatically told stories. I said how he was like, âI JUST DROPPED MY MASHED POTATOES DOWN THE STAIRS!!â Repeating it, on speakerphone, it fell off his sushi box!! Then his friend came over!! hahaha.â
Soon, he arrives. Heâs running over with so many napkins in hand, apologizingso much. I said its no problem. It was so funny. He starts whiping up all the potatoes into a little tent shape to then pick them up, and pick them off the floor. But its not easy to clean up. I mention that to him, how mashed potatoes are super hard to wipe off this floor, huh? hahah
Then he apologized to me again and I told him, again, it was hilarious. He said it was raining mashed potatoes. And I told him that Iâd never heard someone say that sentence before, he said, âwhat? Itâs raining mashed potatoesâ - and I said, no âI just dropped my mashed potatoes off the stairsâ it was so funny.
I told him that I think âraining mashed potatoesâ is a book, lol. He said, no, raining tacos. I said, idk.
He said, âIts a good way to pickup someone. Just drop mashed potatoes as an excuse to talk to themâ. I told him, yes, he should try that on someone, sometime. Itâs a good one hahaha. Then he brought it up again!! And then I told him Iâm not single and he said yeah, he was joking. He didnât mean it THEN/THERE literally.
Then he stopped cleaning and he said the grocery store staff was coming to clean up the rest of it and he walked away. hahaha - but theyâre still not here (the staff) hahahaha. But the family of three was still here, next to me the whole time. They got a lunch and learn, too.
OKAY the notes:
Okay, so down the street, I walked a bit to get to the venue (cause once I realized I was so early, I found a place to chill- that market⌠and I had a meeting after, so I planned to go back after). I walked past the HQ of a MEGACORP! THere were so many fancy cars. Made me wonder if it was worth it. I also saw a pregnant girl who smiled at me, she was holding her huge stomach. I cheered her on: hang in there! She said âthank youâ sincerely haha. I jsut remember being at that stage and everyone felt too âPCâ to ask if i was pregnant or even help or encourage me or notice. Like my whole pregnancy I think 3 people commented!!!!!!!!!!!! Itâs something you sorta look forward to. Or I did. So I was surprised it never happened.
And it seemed like she worked for one of those companies - and was legit looking STUNNING!!! so I was just like, dang girl! You are doing it hardcore right now.
And then I arrived at the venue. The doors were locked for âsecurityâ but they quickly let me in. Then I grabbed some food, went through more security doors, and grabbed a seat.
and btw - THIS EVENT WAS FUNNY hahaha (and, again, this event was BEFORE the mashed potatoes hahahah). Idk how it had so many jokes (really, sometimes the most data-packed talks always end up having the most jokes). Lots of the jokes were by the audience in this one, too. It was really nice.
Also, It didnât feel like an appropriate setting to be typing rapidly (it was only like 10-20 people at this event, small room, lunchâŚ), so I took notes in my notebook w/ a pen. Oldschool style!
But, from this event (and talking to the speaker before hand) I realize Iâm finding a lot of trends among industries, a lot of exciting opportunities and some need. Iâm really getting excited as I attend more events and understand âresearchâ, âhealthâ, and âinformation gatheringâ better. I think we have a lot of amazing potential and breakthroughs coming across lots of industries - especially science/food/health.
And with that!! Letâs get LETS FINALLY into my notes.
LUNCH (cause itâs LUNCH and LEARN)
At lunch, I ended up sitting next to the speaker. This made me nervous cause I really wanted to like her. I donât want to sit down next to someone, not like their personality, and then hear them speak ->>> AND THEN WRITE ABOUT IT!!!!!! Those stakes are so high! You know? And weird!
But not sitting at that table felt rude/weirder. There werenât many seats and I didnât want to sit at this 4-person table with one chair left and just 3 men my age sitting there together (they all looked like friends, too). Nooooo. hahahhaa. And then there was a table, empty, besides those ladies!! Thatâd be so rude too, hahaha.
So, I sat with three nice seeming ladies and quickly told the one I sat next to, that I even recognized her from the photos, sheâs the speaker. She agreed ,as she was introducing herself, hahah. I liked her vibes and I liked the conversation I walked into.
She had been saying in her industry, there are a lot of people looking into it for weird reasons, even snakey (she said), so sheâs really cautious of them. I liked this. I liked how sheâs skeptical and just says it how it is. I donât know a lot about this industry, but I know snakes are in ALL industries.
So, the fact she acknowledges it, works against it. I liked it. Would we have the same definitions of âsnakeyâ? No clue!!! But opinions can change and intentions are important. I think it just made me happy to hear she has a strong heart and values and is careful with her work.
Plus, I want to attend events and leave happy/hopeful. I want for updates from health, science, etc to be great news that we keep moving forward. Problems solved!!
Okay, Iâm rambling, but I was like, okay - this girl is cool
Then we talked a lot more. We talked about each individualâs role these days to speak up, share, and stand up. I told her how I write little blogs about events and try to make content teaching. But we all can only do so much, yet Iâm feeling so optimistic.
There is new money coming into these forgotten sectors (like her own) so we must work to brand and communicate these important innovations. How lucky this time is!! To make money off these solutions that benefit everyone. AND we need money - but not a lot. She said 10M would be plenty. Seemed from her reaction 1M would be pletny. Just need to help her explain to investors why this is important (and Iâd like to know more of the science/alright, whatâs REALLY going on here?). Get people on-board with solving problems.
We talked about a conference Iâm speaking at next month - itâs for regenerating earth with a focus on finance and investing. I see this happening.
With all the government funding cuts, itsâ up to âthe peopleâ now to supply the resources.
In one way this is bad - but in another, look at the âagricultureâ industry - they said the government only pays for corn and soy. So if we know we canât depend on the government, maybe thatâs a good enough excuse for some people/investors to step up and try investing in these little solutions. Or experiments. Not just depend on the government grants. We need individuals to step up. Itâs time to step up.
One lady said family offices are becoming more popular than ever lately, a lady at my table.
I know those bring up a lot of raised eyebrows in the âactivist investorâ community.
AND btw - Speaking of the âactivist investorâ community - right before I went to the event, (while eating that mango in the market, I saw that LARRY CHENG had tagged me in my reply to his post!!) So, my mood was soaring đ
I enjoyed talking with the soon-to-be-speaker a lot. She was talking with the ladies at the table about how theyâre discovering even some bugs have qualities to them (like some chemicals or whatever) that are showing signs of anti-aging, but they need to do more testing. WHAT THE HECK!!! hahaha - Iâm like, Iâll eat a cricket if it slows down my aging!! Every day! hahaha.
Also, I like how she was talking about this really casually/seriouslly, among her peers. It didnât feel salesy or like âpreachyâ it was more just like, âguess what? bugs cure aging.â - sharing an interesting fact that sheâs excited about and a little disappointed to see its not catching on. And Iâm like, âOMG shouldnât the whole world be looking into this fact!?â
But she said YEAH - (cause later I talked with her about it) but she said they apply for funding for stuff for like this all the time and it always gets shot down. Itâs all grant-dependent. I told her maybe itâs like âagriculture worldâ where only âcorn and soyâ are funded. The rest are on their own. She didnât reply cause it was time for her speech.
So yeah, I think there is a lot to this and maybe more than weâre able to research at the moment -because of lack of funding and a sorta broken system.
I think thatâs why this funding is being all reworked in the government. Then hopefully redistributed and then we reorganize our entire system to be more efficient. I kinda feel/hope thatâs what happening, but weâll have to see it to believe it.
I was lucky to spend so much time talking to her in âmy languageâ before her presetnation, at my level of understanding, about âsociologyâ the âpersonâs roleâ, industry roadblockers, etc - cause her speech was pretty âindustryâ speech. But still realllllyyy interesting. Learned a lot - and the audience was a RIOT!!!
hahah everyone was making jokes nonstop. It was so nice.
Alright, let me write down my notes below. hahahahh. I am not sure if Iâve left that sentence in this blog (or deleted it each time) but i feel like I wrote that like 3 or 4 times by now, but I keep wanting to say other stuff too hahahahah. Okay. NOWWWW let me look back and forth from my notebook to my laptop here in this grocery store where there are still mashed potato leftovers on the flooorâ- and share what I learned.
BTW somehow mashed potatoes eventually just like, fade away. The color disappeared over the hour(s) and you couldnât hardly see them by the time I left. Now I realize that I could/should? have cleaned them up? But, when I left they were almost invisible. So, I felt like it was sorta a tattoo for the floor of that memory/moment.
NOTES FROM THE PRESENTATION
Intro: IDK what it was about this intro but the EMCEE nailed it today. Iâve seen her speak a few times before (and even host conferences hahahah) but she was 100% in the zone today and was so funny. Her start to this speech kicked off our speaker into a great start.
This group hosting this is a nonprofit for tech. They wanted to be sure this region could deliver much like Silicon Valley does to its innovators.
They want strong entrepreneurs and a strong community of intelligence and tech.
They want to bring together private, academic, and public money to advance innovation.
UW is the top government funded university in the country!! With these recent cuts entire schools have been wiped .
WOW! But I instantly think of the Ai self-driving car presentation I went to. Where these cars are being build and the tech is being trained, but so much is dependent on STUDENT RESEARCH!!!!!! And the students leave or graduation - then the data. PLUS!!! WHEN I WAS A STUDENT I WASNâT DOUBLE OR TRIPLE CHECKINGâ- ARE THESE STUDENTS!?!??! Sometimes I wasnât even single checking. Clearly.
Basically, I canât believe how entire industries base so much on STUDENT RESEARCH. So, perhaps relooking at this system and changing things up WOULD NOT be the worst idea hahaha. But maybe thats how it is worldwide!! IDK. CHATGPT - deep research this for me, will you?
They believe there is a need for the public to step in and support public research now more than ever.
ha!! we talked about that at lunch. Me and the woman about to present. How we all have to step up and play a role.
Special reports on learning from calamity and preparing for the next k-12 shutdown.
Wahhh! haha. Why do we need to prepare for this again? What is coming? lolâŚ
They want 100 startup to be showcased at their next event. Even though the price looks expensive, she can give you a good rate if you just ask. hahahah.
She says they will, then have a huge lunch-in for a bunch of people and then host some huge leaders in the region.
Now, the event leaders are in a competiton (these leaders of corporations) to outdo each other in attendees (this is an event Iâm not going to attend btw)
Their desire to have more attendees is a âjokeâ, but it also taps into something I heard lately. Like a way to distract a culture is to get them obsessed with âfollowsâ so that they never can be happy. Turns out even the CEOâs of our worldâs top companies deal with desire too, apparently.
Cue: Sheâs so lucky. Sheâs a star but she cry cry cries in her lonely heart. Thinkinâ. If thereâs nothinâ missing in my life - then WHY DO THESE TEARS come at night??
Lost in an image. In a dream, but thereâs no one there to wake her up. Yeah the world is spinninâ and she keeps on winninâ. But tell me - what happens when it stops? They go. Isnât she lucky this (lol i dont even wanna put the next words in writing so many times ) hahaha - letsâ keep going. But yeah, was vibing. Love that song.
WELCOMING THE SPEAKER ON STAGE, INTRODUCING THE TOPIC
LOL the emcee makes a joke: With my cheerful most optimistic estimate of how long I will live, Iâm on the backside of that curb.
Good joke / wording - but NO, GIRL!! Live it up! hahah join me!! Letâs be 130+, lovinâ life!! hahaha. Everyone!! Letâs believe in ourselves and advancements in nutrition and the future hahaha. Not giving up alreadyyyy.
But for real, I liked her intro and her jokes. Seems like this was a well-prepared event. Not a HUGE turnout, but fine and interesting.
I also loved the speaker already, like, just to be dramatic hahaha. Just from our lunch talk, I was like, okay. I am supportive of her thought process and caution of our world.
SHe says: This audience isnât scared of data. Hope youâre not too afraid. We will sort through it all together.
Her company is ENTIRELY GOVERNMENT FUNDED.
wow.
Sheâs from australia! Her lab is interested in understanding frailty.
She says sheâs happy to be interrupted btw if you have any burning questions
I love that she said this. Itâs a good comment to make and really puts the audience at ease. The way she said it too, you know she meant it. So, it worked. The audience was insanely engaged this entire time.
AGING: What we will cover
How do you measure aging?
Frailty assessments in mice
Kane law (this part I was pretty tuned out btw - warning. It got techincal, but still learned a lot⌠the âcloned miceâ as a standard that youâll hear about in part 2 had my mind pretty preoccupied from thereon out)
The more you age, the more likely your risk of almost every disease, especially after 85 years old.
Heart disease is the most common, cancer is second.
If we can figure out the cause of aging, we can prevent all of these diseases.
An audience member speaks up: Once someone is older and they start to get sick, it can last up to three years at most until they die, right?
See!? Instant this-speech-is-alive experience, itâs the speaker AND the audience. What a convo weâre about to have!! hahah. And what a funny question!! âPeople only stay sick for 3 years most (then die)?â This was asked by an adult man!
No there are all sorts of diseases people can acquire which last decades. Althesimers, etc, midlife diseases.
Plus, we have decent medical treatment these days, too, so this can manage the pain and extend a personâs life.
eek-ish.
We donât want to only increase the lifespan if itâs while you are suffering. We want to try to increase the lifespan of the time youâre healthy.
yeah!! glad she said that :)
There are 12 hallmarks of aging. Everything she lists is (idk?)
You can start to lose your senses when you get older!! Your 5 senses will fade. Lots of things :(
So how do we increase our healthiest time and delay aging?
We donât have any good ways of measuring aging itself.
OMG THIS GRAPH SHE POSTED IS FREAKING ME OUT!!! hahah. MY PLANS OF LIVING TO 140+ ARE NOT LOOKING GOOD HEREEEEEEEEEE.
We maintain health and then there is a period of decline.
There is a lot of biology in healthy
if we use choronologocal ages, we get variety. Some people are robust at 80, some people are severly frail.
I will continue to be robust!!
They test with controlled, inbread mice strains.
CONTROLLED INBREAD MICE⌠STRAINS!? like âliko and and smitchâ⌠đ
With the mice strains, they get a lot of variety.
In older age, some are robust and lively, some become frail quicker and lose function.
Measuring is a big undertaking. Their age doesnât determine their abilty to function. It happens to each inbread mice at different times.
How do we say where someone is on the aging curve?
The chronolical age doesnât give enough data.
Your variability from the average will tell you about your health. If youâre aging faster or slower than the average.
Some evidence can show this is true, but the evidence isnât super strong yet.
Alright, alright. Iâve heard this many times beforeâŚ. the classic scientist sentence. So, Iâll let it slide a few times this talk. You brought it up at lunch with the bugs, now this tooâŚ
Some of these less traditional factors shoudl be studied, but this current administration doesnât agree.
See⌠I am here to figure out whatâs going on?? What do we need to put money into? hahha - bugs? MORE INBREAD MICE!?!?!?!
Some of the reasons that mice may age quicker than others (even though theyâre inbread strains!)
Not a lot of opportunity to exercise inside their cages.
The male mice have serious social-heiarchy anxiety.
Maybe they were part of a smaller or bigger litter.
Were they from the the first, second, third, etc. that the mom had given birth to?
What was their early life like?
Tests are conducted by humans about their deficiencies.
The EMCEE hollers out: Are they reported by myself or by my husband? Cause if soâŚ
She is jokinâ đ
Self-reported tests measure body performance with age. These scores are added up and indicate frailty.
Frailty is a way to quantify the heterogeneity (i.e. variation) in how people experience aging and diseases.
Frailty is the only thing that remains significant in predicting mortality.
So as mice age, they act different. You can see the way their bodies respond in this video (she shows a short video of a child mice wrapping its tail around a pen thatâs held near it. Then an older mice doesnât wrap its tail aroud the pen so energetically.)
The emcee (from her chair) asks a comment/question, âI was watching Greyâs Anatomy lately and they said they only study male mice because the women are too difficult - is that âa thing''?â
Everyone cracks up.
We study both.
Everyone cracks up again.
They used to say to âonly study men, because you had to keep in mind the womanâs cycleâ with their hormones. But itâs easy to normalize and track now.
Turns out males actually have more variation in their hormones.
Many people (myself included) gasp!
Female mice groom each other, hang out⌠the men get into fights!
ahahahhaha. Everyone is losing it laughing so hard (she said more but i was just laughing. More examples of how the male mice are actually a lot more difficult to deal with.)
So, no, that isnât true what they said on Greyâs Anatomy.
-AUDIENCE QUESTION: Youâve used the phrase "âinbread miceâ many times now. Monty Python comes to mind and the wild rabbit clone, this and is this capable?
She goes: That definitely happens!
WHAHTHAHHAAAAAAA. THAT DEFINITELY HAPPENS!?!?!?
-AUDIENCE QUESTION CONTINUED: Why use that? (these inbread mice)
Historically, it simplified everything because the genetics. Theyâre basically clones.
BASICALLY CLONESSSSSS
With the C57 strain, you get the crazy mice.
C57 strain, you get the crazy mice!?!??!!
We get aged mice of this strain, pre-aged mice.
WE GET PRE-AGED MICE!??!!
But we get weird results that arenât representative of humans
There are many sex differences that we can see in the mice as they age too. The differences are consistent in humans and mice.
As the mice get older, there is more variety in females, and females are more frail than males. We donât know why.
Is this biological or social behavior?
Women are more likely to seek healthcare or report symptoms?
Women seem to even hypothetically have more resiliance
AUDIENCE QUESTION: Do you all test pregnant mice? Or mice who have had babies?
Someone else says, âthat was my next question tooâ
Iâm like - omg!! not mine - hahahaha. I didnât even have a next question at the moment!
She says: Theyâre all virgin mice.
Everyone bursts into laughter!!!!
She says: Itâs a thing. Itâs a term.
Also, in this mouse model, they live shorter. It makes more biological sense than humans.
Then she says, Iâll skip through this next part.
lol (she skips through a slide and then starts talking, but still iâm just thinking about all of the stuff sheâs said earlier!! It was so much: male mice are more aggressive, they test both sexes, clones, specific strains, crazy virgin mice â- aaaaaahahahahah!?!!?)
Then I tune back in hearing:
Eating 20-40% less can drastically increase your life span.
đ okay?
Machine learning w/ complicated algos can pretty accurately predict ages of mice.
Thatâs my pitch on why frailty is the best way we have to measure age.
LOL i love how she was narrating and guiding us through this.
Now, letâs look at this next section.
Mouse models and human data. As they age, they get frail.
We donât have biomarkers to predict, prevent, or delay age.
Frailty is the qualitative outcome. What increases it?
We do a lot of mice work. Mice live to be about three years, so we can look at the entire lifespan.
Except early life, we start studies at 12 months. But now we see
These mice are only tested from ages 12months +, so we donât research their early life.
12 months is the equivalent of early middle age. We look at their activity, their anxiety levels.
Theyâre in a box box. We track their nesting, burrowing, activities.
We watch their interactions decline with age. Theyâre a very social species.
Theyâre studying the female reproductive aging.
What is happening in the gut microbium? Metabolism? Plasma?
Today we will talk about metabolisms in plasma. Though weâre still waiting on the conclusive data from the inbread mice.
Plasma -> Global Metabolomics
age signature, feature selection, association analogy, sex stratification
Graphs showing lots of variables, all generally decreasing as we age.
What processes and pathways?
Looking at fats in the body. How we process it all.
Many things are sex and gender specific. The maturity of aging signs are very different between men and women. I focus on women most. Males had specific biomarks of aging.
BTW her shirt is really great. Very un-pastel theory. Very lively!!
There are antioxodents found in mushrooms that can be used to measure aging. Analysis says that small amounts of it (too much or too little) can be seen. But itâs hard to tell. Itâs not clear.
AUDIENCE INTERRUPTS: Okay, so either we need to eat more mushrooms or not too many, right?
Everyone laughs hahahha. Exactly.
Then she goes on to the next slide and apologizes for the part that is in yellow.
Independent of age, look at frailty.
Nicotinate + nicotinamcole metabolisms are gaining media attention as anti-aging elements. But thatâs yet to be conclusive.
SEE!! Iâm like, girlllll - myself included weâve said that sentence like 5 times now. Hahah. Such a classic âsciencyâ line.
Can individual metabolites predict frailty?
And btw, low level frailty = good!
Provide biometics that someone is frail or will become frail.
Preventative is our dream!!
Alpha-keto glucate sodes seem to predic, but itâs not concludsive.
Sex-specific extremely varies with metabiometric biomarkers (idk exactly what she said there)
Males and females have completely different sets of markers.
Creatine -> low levels = frailty in men, connected to muscle loss.
Human data saw similar things
Lifestyle intervention w/ relatiely healthy people. Looks at low metabolism group and their change
Seeing similarities in mice with their minds. Fitting into ameno acids.
They want more data in plasma, skin samples, urine, stool, menstrual fluids.
Tons of sex differences vary across entire genes (like, even though theyâre cloning the same genes over and over, remaking the same model of mice, the mice live all sorts of lengths), independent of age.
Looking at the female genital tracts to predict age.
In humans and in mice, the genital samples are older than the blood. This makes sense since they age faster and are one of the first things to go.
OMGGGGG
Specific bugs in the gut are associated with frailty, independent of age.
Look at the entire system and find takeaways.
Ameno acid related metabaloids are associated with aging it may conclude.
Sex is a biological variable.
Okay, so we need not simply ignore these gentle mice the first year of their lives⌠understood!
They have much to teach us. Cause clearly their early years determine how long theyâd live - they only research them one year into life (out of three years) and even though its the same clone, tehy die all different times. WOWWWWWWWW. Nature or nurture? NURTURE? or nature? Hahahah idk. NEXT?
TIME For one question: (a guy asks) Is it true we have one spoonful of plastic in our brains?
Another guy from the audience shouts: itâs a tea spoon.
This group is a comedy troupe!!
At the end, she wraps up the presentation thanking everyone who contributed. This really made me light up cause she especially thanked one guy who had contributed to almost every single page. I like how she gave thoughtful thanks.
And legit it was needed, I FOR REAL even almost mentioned it as a joke moments before, but now I see she would have replied, âthatâs my next slideâ - LIKE A BOSS!
The event is over, the tell us to come back again next month, bring friends.
I talked to a few people after, but then had a phone call / meeting to get to (thatâs why I hurried back to the market - then I sat down, had my meeting, then there was the mashed potatoes incident - hahah⌠and now⌠THE END!)
OVERALL EVENT RATINGS Further ELABORATED:
Venue (3.5/5) : Super sunny in this place . Nice lighting and it was a good size for the small but quality turnout! Just really far from me. Took over an hour each way (but super beautiful journey there and back - plus, I can do work on the journey.)
Food (4/5) : It was good! A little dry, like a healthy boxed lunch. Actually, to be fair, EVERY OPTION they had sounded good. So I was really having a tough time deciding. I would have grabbed snacks to go, but I was on my way to a meeting - AND that meeting as at a grocery store (intentionally, they had a good seating area), but I felt like: donât eat someone elseâs snacks in a grocery store, girl!! hahaha. And kept moving.
Speaker Content (5/5) : It was so interesting, time flew, it was super interactive, her slides were filled with info and data. She did the best job teaching people things, while also making it a fun lunchtime break. Her and the emcee rocked it.
Networking (4/5): I kinda always try my best lately to talk to no one and just hang out, work, observe, and then see what sparks/inspires my interest - THEN get into it (sometimes happens instantly, sometimes doesnât). But this group was very approachable and totally made sure to network with me. hahahaha. So, that was alright.
Likeliness to Return (4.5/5): This is far from me but a nice community and really unlike what you get in many events. Itâs a quality lunch and learn - and Iâve been to a few of these series now.
Until next time, I wish you the motivation and success to search for opportunities around your area. Search and explore: Who is out there giving talks? There are new things happening all of the time.
Find relatable or interesting topics you like and check them out! Maybe even something hosted at a cool venue, if thereâs no other reason to go. Letâs see what you can learn and discover not too far from home. đ
