Celebrating Mothers and Painting Event Prep
🤷‍♀️ ESTIMATED READING TIME: ELEVEN MINUTES
Disclaimer:
Everything below is a mix of what I observed and heard during the event. The goal isn’t to pinpoint "who exactly said what," but to share (usually) an outsider's view and overall perspective on these industries. I’m not here to act as a definitive firsthand source—readers should do their own research. I hope this inspires you to attend events, explore new industries, and hear what leaders are presenting. These notes combine my observations with thoughts on how things could run smoother and how ideas connect (IMO). I’m not an expert, you know? Just hanging out in the room with them. Enjoy!

I rearranged my Mother's Day plans to help prep for an upcoming conference I was asked to speak at. A kind, beautiful night with snacks, flowers, and good people. But now I’m wondering: am I even giving my speech??

The event is coming soon and it’s time to keep getting ready. I was invited to help paint some things to get ready for a conference I was asked to speak at this upcoming weekend. This excited me, since during the event planning meetings I’d attended before, I had strongly suggested it’d be smart to make more art to display things for people IRL. So I assumed maybe we’d be making stuff related to that suggestion of mine!
Why Attend? I like this group and I want to help, it’s sorta nice to join them and also be this valued speaker... So I was able to rearrange my schedule and childcare with my ex. We ended up going out to a very early dinner as a family to celebrate Mothers Day, and then I broke away to help out with this. We just shifted our weekly schedule a bit. But it is really nice my ex and I get along well. I work hard at it and want to forever. He’s a nice man and a good dad. Maybe we don’t always see eye to eye on a lot - or have patience for each other, but it’s so nice to get along with an ex. It should be more normalized, and I’m lucky for the people I saw do it extremely successfully over my life.

Notes from the Event:
I don’t have too many notes from this event because it was just a physical expeirence where we crafted and chatted a little.
Mostly I want to write about this since I’m excited about it, supportive of this weekend, and a bit nervous to speak!!! LOL. It’s cool to watch it all come together.
I was really flattered because one of the woman who helped host the project had set aside some great financial literacy education content for me to look at.
She remembered it from the last time we talked.
She told me about a project she had worked on decades ago that is still in existence. Etc.
I want to help her build out content for her idea, too. I think her idea is great for eco villages.
But… it was disappointingly funny cause the art project we were doing was NOT at all what I expected. I thought we’d be making logistical art, but instead it was just a prepping for one woman’s craft station she was preparing.
That surprirsed me in a bit of a disappointed way, but it was still fun. We used paint and glue. Plus, when you assume you make an ass out of you and me. I shoudn’t have assuemd it was my art suggestion that we’d be taking care of.
One of the girls I’ve recently befriended arrived too. Again, I feel like I’m always so soon to say “friend” but I look forward to it happening over time.
I had mothers day flowers with me, from just having been out to dinner, and I ended up giving them to some of the peopel there. To say thanks for hosting and such.
One girl there had flown in from out of town. She flies to this region once a year from all the way across the nation to work on development here, though she lives over there.
I wasn’t thinking this is very smart logistically, but idk the details. You know. I’m sure it works fine.
She was in town a week early and so excited to be here, but she said she was missing motehrs day too.
So when I gave her a flower she was really happy. She even kinda followed me back to my backpack after I’d given a few flowers to others, so I offered her some. Then she said she always missed mothers day so she had never had mothers day flowers before.
She was excited to leave them in her hotel room by the window.
So after she walked away I even left her a few more.
It was sweet.
A weird conversation came up though, because one woman asked what was each of our involvements with the event.
I told them that my involvement was that I was recruited to give a speech about finance. I told the whole story about how the Yogi recognized me at the event about events, and then he asked me to meet with him. I never got in touch with him, but somehow he got my email. Then he connected me with this group saying they wanted me to give a speech. Since most of hte audience is “Crypto Bros” so I can talk about more traditional finance.
Then I wrote a whole speech, sent the deck and my bio.
Then they started inviting me to all of these events.
I told them how I still hadn’t heard back about when exactly on Sunday (the finance day) I’d speak though, but yeah, no worries.
Then the girl who I’ve sorta befriended lately was really confused.
She said she would take a look at the schedule and see what she could do.
Then I lightheartedly jokes that no one likes public speaking, so… you know, let’s see. Maybe I don’t speak, but my speech is super awesome.
Again, I just think EVERYONE could benefit from learning about the reverse repo. I will post the speech on here and put a mic at my lapel.
I left the event a bit after. I was really tired from such a full day and it takes over an hour to get home. Really, this place is not easy to get to.
But, I was happy to help and be a part of this group. I like this mission a lot and I like that they want to hear my opinion. I mean, as long as I’m giving this speech!!! Hahaha geeze. What hte heck? What have I been doing all this time if not??? Just confusing. I’m happy to help, but - I also thought I’m giving a speech too…. right? That’s why I’m here. Or just a random free volunteer??? I’m 35 and running two businesses off no budget!!! i don’t have time or interest to be a free volunteer with no direct benefit when I have so many amazing missions I’m working on with every single moment I can find to work on them!!
I want to be valued and working hard!! So then I can rest hard, feeling accomplished. Not half/half. Hmph!!!!!!
EVENT REVIEW ELABORATED:
Venue: 4/5 - amazing place, just really difficult to get to from my house. It does take like an hour and a half each way.
Food: 5/5 - it was so sweet for her to prepare food and snacks for us.
Speaker Content: 4/5 - it was fun to work together with people. You know, I wish we could spend more time together and get to know each other. I wish that about everyone in the world. It would do so much benefit for more peopel to sit aroudn and chat and work together and create.
Networking Opportunity: 5/5 - this is a great environment to meet people
Likeliness to Return: 4.5/5 - minus the fact it’s super hard to get to, I like this group and I’m happy to work on a team and help.
