The Creative Cursors: No time for design.

Disclaimer: Everything below is a mix of what I observed and heard during the event. The goal isn’t to pinpoint "who exactly said what," but to share (usually) an outsider's view and overall perspective on these industries. I’m not here to act as a definitive firsthand source—readers should do their own research. I hope this inspires you to attend events, explore new industries, and hear what leaders are presenting. These notes combine my observations with thoughts on how things could run smoother and how ideas connect (IMO). I’m not an expert, you know? Just hanging out in the room with them. Enjoy!

One of the biggest names in the creative business is hosting a get-together for creatives in the area. Lately, the edutaining events have been low. Why? Probably since it is Summer. :) So, why not attend these random things. It’s fun to learn, you may meet others, and they’re promising good snacks. I mean… let’s see! I’ll rate them :)

Why Attend: My goal is to work in content creation and build amazing edutaining products which inspire others and are useful for generations and generations. In the way that a handful of other companies are. Not a lot. Companies, leaders, etc. I’m aiming for that. It’s much easier said than done, but I say it a lot and do even more about it. And no one is saying it’s easy. haha, so already the odds are looking good. Now, for this event, let’s learn the latest in design.

Overall Event Review: Venue (3.75/5), Food (2.5/5), Speaker Content (2/5), Networking (3/5), Likeliness to Return (2/5)

Notes from the Event(s)

Let’s talk about this event + a bit more I saw from this design week. I only want to add a little more because I’m realizing this “design week” is such a missed opportunity. So much of what I’ve seen of it is like big trippy art installations that look like fun houses or something. The big family-friendly event they had this weekend too. And I’m like, what? Let’s design useful and helpful things. Especially,, now in our struggling economy.

It’s what I dont’ get. We need art that’s building and inspiring and influential for change. And making things better and more functional and peaceful and good for all.

I think the design groups should be teaming up with different industries and facets of the world (agriculuture, transporation, commodities, etc) - some things like this. And then it’ll be like a very good use of all of these minds and efforts and gatherings. So.. I tried to go to antoher one of their events already this week - which you see in the pics above, and then this one, too - made me like - eeh. Okay. I’m over this “week”. I’ll do other stuff.

ARRIVING + LEAVING EARLY

  • i got very lost on my way there going this way, that way, and the other. Eventually finding a million lines and nametags to fill out with tags that didn’t aplpy to me… then the line was so long for food and drinks but the lines were so hard to understand and the staff was so weird about it.

  • At one point they were passive aggressive like, “you guys know theres a food line inside, right?” and then they led us up there but then we ended up just cutting A LOT of peopel and joinign the back of some other line and it was so weird so then i told everyone - you guys just cut all thsoe poeple but then the peopel who were most recently cut todl the other people, like ‘its fine” - as if they dont’ care they just got cut by al lthese people. And i’m like what the heck? Why are you guys playing stupid right now, just cutting all these people who waited forever?

  • Then I asked a staffmember and told her and she just said i was sweet and she didnt konw, but thanks for trying.

    • Before that, I’d walked all aroudn and I saw that this event was just like “mix and mingle” all checker-board themed- i’m so not into that these days

    • And then like swag bag grabs, DIY pens. IDK - for me, i wasn’t buying it and wasn’t spending my time here.

  • It may sound like overreacting, but, there are so many ways to spend your time, especially as an entrepreneur living in a big city. And the last thing I want to do is stay places that are not my vibe like nonstop. There were just too many things adding up and I was like, okay, i’m outta here. Bye!

  • And then yeah, I left, got on a bike, and then rode a long time until eventually getting back to the subway and riding home. It was amazing weather.

RANDOM UPDATES

  • So, i’ll spend the rest of this blog with some updates I guess. I’ll pick 3:

    • The classes I’m putting online are going super well. I’ve got my fairy tales + then random themed classes. Before I dive back into completing those, I want them all to get re-approved by the company I want to host them on.

    • I was suggested to just become an author on my own, using some platforms, so I may go do that. But, I feel ilek I have a few other things i can do first.

    • That includes building out more content for the weekly online classes for youth that I’m adding to the mix. Stepping those up and trying to mkae them monumental + sorta a source of a few other business streams + useful content for kids. Like my class will be the inspiration to make content that then can be sold in other platforms. Just the class is the live/interactive version, then other versions of it can be for sale, too. Im’ trying to think smarter, not harder :)

  • Also - tomorrow is another day of “dancing” - most of me wants to skip it. But, I may go at the last minute. I just had a stressful time the last time (I wasn’t expecting it to ever turn into such an energy drag, but maybe if i reapproach it with the proper mindset, it’ll be better). But, idk if I’d go this time. But I don’t want to go to the next design event I was planning to go to. I’m over this whole design week. Not for me. so. Maybe I dance instead or find sometihng else or tomorrow or just keep working. But I always like pushing myself to try things and get out of the house and even socialize a bit :)

Overall Event Review Elaborated:

Venue (3.75/5), This place is super hard to find and super bright inside and a huge campus. It’s cool but also, not eactly for me.

Food (2.5/5), So much drama with the food! And it wasn’t even healthy. I don’t even know. Nachos and sliders - idk. I just left and bought my own food cause it was just super awkward. Liek so much passive aggressiveness and I didn’t even know where to line up, then they just said - go get a drink.

Speaker Content (2/5), I didn’t like the vibe here. One may feel like it was a bit forced, liek I was surprised how they commented on my outfit saying its super in season right now… when its a dress i’ve had a long time and a jacket i’ve had even longer and I just wear things randomly. So, just felt liek making me eyeroll. Then other things

Networking (2.5/5), Idk. there were ways to talk to people, but it was easy to talk to no one.

Likeliness to Return (2/5), I don’t think so. This whole event is not my scene, cause I think its a missed opportunity, as I said.

Until next time, I wish you the motivation and success to search for opportunities around your area. Search and explore: Who is out there giving talks? There are new things happening all of the time.

Find relatable or interesting topics you like and check them out! Maybe even something hosted at a cool venue, if there’s no other reason to go. Let’s see what you can learn and discover not too far from home. 😊
