Hold the Door, Please: I’m Approved to Stop by this Ai Hackathon for Youth
🤷♀️ ESTIMATED READING TIME: TWENTY FIVE MINUTES
Disclaimer: Everything below is a mix of what I observed and heard during the event. The goal isn’t to pinpoint "who exactly said what," but to share (usually) an outsider's view and overall perspective on these industries. I’m not here to act as a definitive firsthand source—readers should do their own research. I hope this inspires you to attend events, explore new industries, and hear what leaders are presenting. These notes combine my observations with thoughts on how things could run smoother and how ideas connect (IMO). I’m not an expert, you know? Just hanging out in the room with them. Enjoy!

The blog isn’t “just” about this hackathon. It’s you documenting the collisions between youth culture, tech hype, city policy, and values—and staking your ground inside it. That’s a big mission and it shows in the writing.
Topics: Ai Education for Youth, Hackathons, Community Building, Adult Oversight, Guidance, Role Models, Trend Setting, Social Dynamics, Ageism, Teen Culture
This event has a million things that I’m paying attention to these days tied to it, so I sent in a request and got on their list. Let’s see what’s going on at this youth-invited event! All related to artificial intelligence, too. I’m really going into this without too many expectations, I jsut want to keep learning about these industries and realities. But I do wonder why the “pizza and beer” place needs to sponsor this event for an event thats marketed to people 70% underage for drinking? It’s like - why unnecessarily mention “beer” to them??? I don’t get it. Or do I?
Why Attend: I’ve got some extra time before another event I’m attending… so I thought htis sounds EXTREMELY up my alley (I mean, I bought the freaking website “aiedu4youth.com” to help lead the way in youth Ai education, alongside the White House. Self-appointed. 💁♀️ And I love this event - and have another event after nearby. The first part of the event (where I can attend) is the intro talk. So I want to hear what is discussed, presented, and how does this age group react, too? Also, will they be as hyped as me about this location? Or —- are they “too cool” to show it, like almost everyone my age hahahah.
OVERALL EVENT REVIEW: Venue (5/5), Food (3.75/5), Speaker Content (5/5), Networking (3/5), Likeliness to Return (4.5/5)

Notes from the Event
Hackathon. Host is handsome. Stands out in this blue shirt! hahha omg.
I noticed him earlier (not realizing he’s the host, just thought he was coworking here/had to be here but wasn’t part of the event) but I intentionally did NOT make eye contact. He’d feel too awkward if he saw me look at him, hahah. I’ll just not, maybe I’ve seen him before. He has such a nice demenour.
I was asked to join a team by a woman sitting at my table, which is so sweet - but I dont know how. They said they only have 2 people, but I said I’d leave after an hour. This is so funny. What is hacking even? You know? Copy/paste?
I mostly just want to stay and learn more and hear. Lemme observe this group a bit.
There are only a few girls - but not like SO few. Maybe 30% - People who are white and female like me, only… none (from this quick visual read)- I think none here, attending as students. Wow! And then there are a few white boys, the rest is not.
I just notice, cause I know that there was recently a youth Ai event in Bellevue and the guy said not one white person showed up. The host. So, not to be racist, just race observant, now I am noting how many people are in this aren’t either.
It’s just like - I’m thinking diveristy IS importnat and to quote the movie Blazin’ Saddles, “Where the White Women At?”
Also, the hostess of this place is so nice. She said she subscribed to my youtube channel! lol. I told her to listen to my new song. lol - she’s not a white woman, though - but now we know each other and its kinda sweet.
The schedule is 11:00 introduction, 12:00 hacking time, 3:00 presentations and judging, 4:00 awards
This is so cool!!! It’s like a reality tv show IRL. The presentations would be so fun.
Their entrance window was super tight - which I kinda like. If you idn’t arrive after - tehy said, “we’re not letting you in!” even thoguh i saw two guys arrive late :)
OMG she worked with the mayor. She’s the founder of this place!? It’s a colla with the city? I REALLY think I misheard a lot of what she just said for hte record.
Constant events, focused on Ai applications, research, startups, etc. If you wanna stay connected, there is the QR code to get access to the calendar, email list, keep u pro dat with the hackathons- the series. Excited to have you back here (oh the last one had the mayor or something)?
THIS IS A bit of a line? right? Offering this to 14 year olds? Or its fine? haha. I just thin its like - all ages sign up for this and now we’re casually inviting 14 year olds?
Born from the ___ institute for Ai. From right here, fund startups. Start as early with a solo founder with a seed of an idea. Invest 100k, find a team, pair with cofounders, validate idea, then go to seed funding. Raising a couple million by hte end of our incubator - they invest 6,000.
Even beyond today, apply and tell us about yourselves and ideas - we’d love to work with you.
She started her first company after Harvard.
Harvard always is iffy for me.
Launched her first app after graduation, it was in a top wave of iPhone fitness apps.
Real problems you can solve don’t have to just be fun projects, they can take off and make real impact in the world
Next, the city of Seattle lady representative is here.
She and I were in teh bathroom together and couldn’t figure out the towel. She’s a deputy director for hte innovation team of the city I guess, something like that.
Earlier this morning the Mayor updated an update Ai policy
oh… kay. Thats why they brought up the mayor earlier.
And, btw, again, last time i heard him speak, he was making fun of people for hteir various sleeping positions - saying it says a lot about your personality!! at a charity event for a underprivildeg acessiblity museum thing! so i’m like ,geeze. now he’s getting into THIS? But. no. he’s not. hahaha. I was like - wait> this is the SECOND event and he kicked off the FIRST!? Thats why I thoguht I misheard her earlier. And I did. cool :)
He simpyl made an ai-related annoucement today. not someting for this event, i think. okay. hahaha carry on.
The cit yes going to resolve real problems for residents. More equitable and easy to access - this is in partnership with this place. And then lots of partners. The pizza bar - okay - so not pizza BEER. But still, they’re pushing alcohol into the minds of these kids. I don’t get it. It’s a bit pushy. But, that’s readily. Just seems not age appropriate down to the definition. Really.
The challenge ahead of you during the shackathion is the youth connector hackathon. We’re thrilled you joined today to unlock new ideas using Ai
Last year we did research on student mental health which increased access to services in schools. Heard that loneliness, stress, and anxiety is a major stressor - social actiities help for making a difference in mental health and well being
That wording/setup is a little fishy to me. I mean, I get it and support it - but also “last year we did research and ___” i’m like, you can do research and get any data you want, you know? Just something about this pharasing was a litte “convenient” idk how to say it - though I like events obvious and this topic is liek so KT
These programs can be difficult to find… how do we make this information not scattered across dozens of websites
Less overwhelming to find whats available
Youth connector is a way to engage youth and expand supports, remove barriers to participate, connect youth to programs they want. ‘
They need to”your ideas” on how to wrangle this data
They wanna use open data nad the right tools to help young people quickly find programs to match needs, schedule, and interested
Design Ai powered tools from scateredinto an up to date calatlg (I dont get what she’s saying, lots of ups, she’s readying)
She wants you to make a scheduler web app to match schedules to (?) - okay now someone else will talk
He says: hey everyone, good to see you all. Glad you make it. He works for the city. His job is to use data approaches to help solve some of the complex challenges we have a s a city, including the youth connector.
This platform, what does it need? A living reliable catalogue of youth activities. Continuously updated, draws from city webpage, social media, different webpages not part of the city. Anything out there - creating ,managing and refreshing the content manually is tough . Data becomes outdatesd, key details that matter to you - liek where is the location, when? How’ do I get there - what kind of food do tehy have? Um? Those details can be missing um from um what may be published online.
That’s why we are envisioning a smart catalogue. That supports the content discovery forte youth connector.
Think of that as a dynamic Ai powered system that can automitaically gather, compress, and organize the information
Make it easier for us, and youth to discover opportunities that fit your needs. That’s your challenge today - I’ll talk more about some ideas that may you can use to help solve this problem.
One is the catalogue builder, I just like to come up with names. So if this is the agent or tool, the catalogue builder performs a specific talks like taking unstructured data from cities web pages and turning it into something that can be used as a standard schema or an actual ccatalue that can need the platform.
Here’s an example of a beautiful city of Seattle wespage -
Seattle gov, youth pgorams (ages 14-24) - all lead to different pgormas and pages. Already on our web page.
What about one for adults first???
Also things down to th activity level - if you want to take a class, looking at the class from the parks system catalogue ion under 2025, a class on mandarin, it costs $190. When, where, how to register? Who is it for? How do I get there? That kind oof stuff
Some of that info exists already - thats an idea
Another agent = the “curator” maybe we call it that. But, uh, this one I think is something that it’s specific task would be, let’s go outside the city’s webpage. Let’s go to the rest of the webbernet, social media, challis, get hte same info and fit it into the same format. Feed the platform.
When we’re thinking about things like that, we have to think about, um… some, a little bit of scoping. So, I have it hersome examples - we probably only want things in Seattle. Only thing for youth, male up through 25 of ages. We want to look at schools, um, nonprofit, um, um, uh clubs and things like that. This is an example of(they have nonprofits, schools, museums, arts orgs, YMCA, Yobys& girls, etc) listed - but he doest’ say them aloud…
Some of the challenges we have to keep the data fresh is the sync agent. This is what would make the catalogsmart - it can identify when the data needs to be updated or chewed up automatically. Maye a challenge that Ai would be good at.
And lastly is the spark finder - a tool thathelps match your interests with the programs in the catalogue, or not in the catalogue. I came up with that name, you don’t have to togo with it - but that helps with the discovery part of the tool
All of these are designed with a specific function in mind. Keep in mind that interoppaiblity between them… there could be a hnandshake and they can work togehter in a system
Whatever you try, just keep in mind that the challenge is to support smart catalogue with content discovery (Kelly tutors needs one of these)
And btw I’m so testy to “alcohol/beer” CASUE I AM A SOBER ALCOHOLIC hahaha. Society pushes it on us, and I’m happier without it!! So, no I’m like what theheck they push kidssss
WHY IS A BAR SUPPORTING THIS UNDERAGE KIDS EVENT. It is weird and not a mistake, right? They need Kelly Tutors int these meetings to state hte obvious next time.
Okay - back to his talk
_ and then, I guess. Wince we are talking bout responsible Ai in teh beginning, um, this is our first Ai hackathon, so we’re kinda in uncharted territory. We put a few guidelines
I think there’s going to be a way on how to use bolt.new
(he doesn’t read over the guidelines - it says “do not attempt anything illegal, don’t break terms of service”- oh he says, be respectful, includisve, collaborative
Work to do something good today, in the spirit of trying to do something good
What you built today isn’t going though the city’ resposbilty process. So you’re responsibly for whatever happens, we’re not completely libaibe - or maybe not.
But try not to do things that are harmful, deceptive ,discriminative. DOn’t put any guard rails for things like that.
Try not to include naything personal or private when you’re pulling data.
Don’t break the law, don’t break the terms of service, - okay, he’s sayin git all
Do what feels good to you.
“do what feels good to you”???? wouldn’t you rather say - “play it safe, when in doubt?!” to these teens!!!? Yeesh- they need kelly tutors ai classess for real!! 😅
this is just liek the alcohol/bar pizza sponsor reference… these boundaries are being blurred. right here. you know? is that fine? isthat just how things are? then why not lower hte drinking age - right? I mean what is going on? hahaha. idk.
ALSO - due by 3pm - we’ve created a form for when you’re done to submit the info that the judges will use. Make sure you have some time before the 3pm deadline. Save 20 minutes to do a one-minute video pitch (ie yoodli.ai) the approach you took and the problems you solved
Conversations starters
Waht works well and doesn’t work well
SCORING CRITERIA:
Accessibility and udaibltiy: (10 pts) - how well do non-technical folk understand what you’ve created?
Clarity and reviewabiltiy(10 pts)
Creativity and originality(10 pts)
Feasibility(10 pts)
Functionality(10 pts)
Repeastibiltiy (10 pts)
They want to actually literally want to make this stuff be repeatable -s o tehy can use it to build this, IRL in the city.
They don’t want all the teams to build the same thing. They want some innovating. Evetythin his 10 points
And btw - they say this audience:
What is your technical level
- none/minimal (22%)
Student = 65%
Technologist = 24%
Entrepreneur/Founder = 20%
Community Member = 16%
Nonprofit Employee 8%
Local Volunteer (3%)
- YOU ARE THE NEXT GENERATION OF TECHNOLOGIST, LEADERS, and ENTREPRENEURS
Holy crap he’s right - what a room to be in!!!!!
This time here is really special. We are on the frontier of what AI can do to solve the world nad city’s problems. If you try something and it doesn’t work, that’s fine but it’d be great to learn about that as well. We want to shape how we can use these tools to solve real world problems
BRO this is my style
If you joined to help build something meaningful, thank you very much
OKAy now the handsome guy is walking to the stage. Now talking, from this place. I need to come up with a different name for him cause I think I’ll meet him any times. LOL - I think I’ve met him before. Maybe I’ll recognize his voice. Anyway. He’s got a wedding ring, so you know, just noticing from afar. But - yeah. Probably all the girls in here think this - and some of the guys hahahah. He’s just effortless. He must know.
Okay -first off. This is the wifi password - a few people laugh. Take a picture of it.
But i literally think they just laugh cuase they want to smile at whatever he says hahahahhaaha. for real.
The password is a play on teh words “great view”
So, welcom, my name - he says - he founded the organization: We Bild with Ai… the mission is to empower anyone to build with Ai -
His thing has all the companies he’s worked with etc… some of them I DOn’t love. Som are really cool. So, let’s see
You don’t need an engineering degree anyone to build with Ai and publish your own App.
He’s run a lot of workshops - over 20 intake past few moths. (Okay yeah, ives been him but let’s see - actually… he has a handsome serious face, but when he starts talking its less of a model, more of a normal human - hahah but, for sure handsome - okay. And recently I learned, “handsome/attractive people are used to getting attention” - which oyu may never even realize! I experienced this a lot in china, (and now i am better at controlling when I turn on/off my intention for attention 😄)
A bit about hm, besides this - and these events - he used to work at all the big companies, LOTS of companies even uber when they were startups. Wow. And he’s part of other groups - and coding in Ai.
He’s an expert in residence here.
As mentioned, there’s no limits n waht you can use today to create something.
Examples -
Then he shows how lots of GenAI apps will do this, make the HTML and render it.
How many of you have used these - raise your hands - “okay, so almost tall the people)
The next level, in terms of capabilities, its Ai coding platforms (bolt, moveable, replete) - only liek 10 people raise their hands -
And then moving down the list are more professional ai coding platforms that you really need to know how to code in order to use them. That includes Claude Code, Gemini, (oh wait, no - thats further down… these are cursor, windsurf, GitHub - he said those turn you into a super coder)—=- teh the next is Ai Command Line Interfaces. They’re some of the newest. Anyone here use these.
WOW lots of people raised their hands for usign those - I mean, liek more than 5. There are SMART PEOPEL HEREE hahahahah omg. THes smart teenagers hahaha. This cracks me up. I love it
Wow - now tehy say you can use bold for free -
WOW promo codes for 50 people. If you want a pro cold go to the second link. That’s nice
WOW and others gave free codes -
See, this is cool - tehy’re giving free credits. I bet he gets kickbacks too. Dang. Casual.
Okay now they’re playing a quick tutorial?
And btw so many people in this building are going to freak out when they find out about my website. But I need to really get serious about Aiedu4 youth.com - I’m so glad I’m just laying low and being chill and undercover lately. Cause this is seriously serious. Hahaha. IT’s like, I’m not joking.
OOF okay -
Yeah I jsut realize I have such a beautiful thing - my website - and I need to keep being chill nad still while I boiled this. And patient. Espeicalyl if/after MOASS. Then I’ll have more credaiblity - which I already know I have. SO… let’s see. But I like being patient.
- This speaker says his son is 3.. Hm.
He says his son loves to go to wading pools and some - but they close mid august or September 1 -
Make a website where parents can volunteer to super vise areas
WHAT his idea is for parents to volunteer supervising areas? What? Like if you want to leave your 3yo with other parents? I dont get this/
The prompt is for if parents want to take their kids to a park but then volunteer to supervise? What?
He writes, “ I want to build a website where parents can volunteer to supervise wading pools and spray parks in teh Seattle areas in the month of September” - -
= now this website can “enhance” — now it expands
Okay - great now it has more details. So they rewrite details
Now he’s going to check them again.
It took what he said and turned it into a page of requirements. He’s not going to go through them for time sake but you shoudl (DUDE YOU SHOUDL - waht are you talking about? Do you leave parents with other peoples kids or do you just mean let them stay open? Hahah od I’m jsut so so so so overly aware of the numerous of kids going missing each day nad especially at this age - you know - I mean the attendees)
Now the computer is just making all this tut, he didnt check it - its got 3rd part integrations. He said maybe he’ll have to tell it to not use these things. HTis is his entire implementation plan. IT’s creating more details dinstructiosn for itself too before it starts coding. Once it’s finalized, he’s just sorta chatting now.
Then there is a preview that’ll actually show the teh website will look like conceits done with the execution of hte code.
The different tab shows the files its creating.
WOW WOWO this is crazy.
This is the fun of live demos with tools that evolve every week thatI have a workshop - bit looks like it said - this is what I’m going to do - but not executing… so you can also use the function down here called “discuss” which is like chat gpt - that seems like its like what it did - just make an even more detailed plan, so click off discuss and say - let’s execute this plan and start writing code (he did that with ice command) - now it’s “thinking”
And now it’s making code -
Some asked what he’s using - he said “Mac whisper” - I don’t recommend using Siri - it’s not very good but that’s the one I’m using . Happy to provide links rot hat as well. If you are a student you can get it for free for a few months.
Loveable if you verify it you can get 50% off for a few months.
This is the thing with reacting with LLM’s though, you don’t know what they’re going to do - they don’t give them same results with the same input eeryitme. This is why I do the live coding edmonstrations. But I t didn’t do what I ask. Instead it started talking. And that’s what it’s doing, right?
It created a homepage. This is what’s riding right now in terms of code. And still going. Um, and so while we’re waiting of it to finish and the prompt turned into a really big prompt. A sentence into half a page, into three pages of information. This may take 5-10 minutes to actually execute. Let’s go and see.
Now a woman workign here talks to some ladies behind me about hte plan for when this is all done.
Th guy next to me is lookngat his phone and has his baby as his background. SO, there are all ages here, huh? Not just 14 yo’s.
I see on their calendar they they have a fly fishing ventures event tonight - fly fishing!? That’d be so un hahah. But I dont’ think that’s what it is.
Okay now he’s taking about prompts and idk. He sys - if I wanted to change some specific aspect. Um.. (oh, he’s lookin at atnother website he’s made) - you can highlight hte part of hte website you want to change.
- WAHT can you do this no freaking squarepsace or something? I don’t underset websites. My website is so fancy, you know - but I bet I could have done it different. Or no. Hahah omg.
Thisis funny.
Changes cost tokens. This is how you know how much you have left to accomplish what you want to.
Okay - he says it created an error - this website. But he says, great thing is they’ll show you when there’s an error, they’ll show you - then you can attempt to fix it. In this case, they’re fmissing a super base variable - database backend storage. So it think they need a super base account. We’ll attempt to fix it, hopefully it just crates a button where I click to create a new super base project, but w’ll see.
But if you ask it to fix it a few times and it doesn’t work - go to an other LLM - like chatgpt and go show it everythingand get a 2nd opinion from the LLM.
But now it has the website made - wow the website looks super great!!! Its looks great
I’m impressed.
This makes me realize how easy it is to make FAKE WEBSITES FOR CRYPTO!! THIS LOOKS LIKE. REAL WEBSITE RIGHT NO@WWWWW
THIS IS INSANE - it’s why they say to dig around websites omg it’s so easy to make a fake website!!!! I’m blown away.
Okay - he says alrlight- I know a lot of peopel of you have used this before. If you have or if oyu’haven’t, definitely we have 3 mentors here - so… wave your hands (she finds them) . So, if you have questions on how to use tools, running into error. Was to get some advice, etc. Come and talk to us.
There are judges that are the helpers. Omg this Is really cute and amazing. I love it hahahah
Pro tips include: use chrome, turn on dynamic reasoning, use discussion, use outside Ai chatbots if you get stuck or want other options, if built get hung up refresh the browser
Lol there is a guy in hte back eating a granola bar. He’s extremely tall so it’s just the tiniest snack for him.
Also the pizza is arriving like EACTY on time with the end of his speech. THey’re doing well with timing cause it’s like 11:59.
- LOL but for real it reminds me of the poetry slam I went to wheree they said, “have the time accuracy of white person, be back in 7 minutes” - lol, which is like, dude, look at this. I’m so race-aware today! Lol
He says - if you need help, ask us, ask your fellow creaters. There are two ways to create projects… start small and iterate, or spend more time with Chat GPT - come up with the detailed execution plan… which is what bolt did to create the code ew created.
If you want in teh future to go to any events I do in the future, look at th slump calendar. T ring to make them accessible to everyone.
He wants you to learn something new, build something new, meet someone new.
(So wweet!!!) lol. I am like awww. Okay - I ‘ll be friends wit this guy int he end. But still I’m so so so so solo sosososo hyper motor wolf (I was mother wolf in a play back in Shanghai, so I feel ill it was me a preview - now I’m totally mother off)
Now they say that they’re going to get hte teams on their way, you have three rooms - multiple teams in a room or a desk setup
I am not sure I’ll stay for too long - Cause I have another event. So they just say - real quick - there is food. It’s here, they mention intentionally: from Seattle pizza and bar -
Bro. Why mention “bar” so intentionally. I’m not a fan of that. It’s glamorizing bars!!!! To these nearly old enough youth? 14yo’s here, 21 is the age for drinking, you guys.
It’s fine… when I host these things. - it’s from like, hahah idk. Something so pure. I was gonna say chuckle cheese, but idk.
I overhear these guys talking behind me right as I sit down to write this blog at a new location - before I go to my next event in 50 minutes… they say:
Yeah we got girl, better than the boy. I can’t imagine. Her, gotta pull them, out - feeding. He wasn’t like the girl. Shit’s a bit crazy.
Oh, I know. You can have all the fancy stuff you want, I’ll go wherever you are. I want it. Don’t let them get too smart too fast. Take care. (they were having a conversation about something with a lady - like dogs or idk)
That’ good, that’s taped. Those cans are taped. It’s hat 4:00 yet ?I didn’t put ice on it yet
These guys are talking besides me. At the area I went to sit and work before my next event.
These electricians. He says he was out on teh terrace. And you know how they have the flaps? They’re the big metal flaps. (Yeah, yeah on the terrace, yeah). Yeah, so I was I had to move the power cause they moved the freaking tables. And said come on guys, what are you doing? I already set the power, did the work. I am undoing it. The the lid closes, slammed my finger (that’s a heavy lid) - I had blood blisters on both of my fingers. Blood gushing out. He said he got so mad, I wanna kill you guys. This shouldn’t have happened (his friend cracks up) - he said he gets home, get the bleeding to stop. Friction’… I’ll kill you. He sys again. And then he’s messing with his fingers, looking at them as he walks off.
Hm. What a crazy convo to hear. I’m just sitting by the back entrance where they have liek a visit Seattle 6-sided star and a LGBTQ+ pride flag and some security guard an some nice couches and a bunch of hte hockey jerseys and my computer charring. A big corporation also has a conference here.
Okay with that. My notes on this event are done. BUT I would like to reflect:
I like the idea of being right at the cutting edge of this moment in history and injecting it with an essential “reminder” of ethics/values, etc. Helping to craft the future of Ai Education for Kids & Youth. It’s like, I learned how to teach the basics of ABC’s/life skills in China… and now I want to teach values and essentials alongside eAi , too. I mean, where else to start - you know? It’s such good things to think about.
And how that guy said “you guys are ht future entrepreneurs and leaders” its true. And I want to say that to my students forever too, you know. And thats how I view them and I want them to know this. It’s such a fantastic it thing to tell them.
:) It’s such respect, you know?
To get respect you give it, right? Is that true? Is there something to this? I think so.
And btw, yesterday my dad said that the White House lately, were talking about Ai Edu for Youth (which is the core of why I’m attending these things and working to build the future), and I’m like - uh yeah!! It’s gonna be happening probably here on out, forever.
But then he later even told me the first lady is leading a lot of it - which, I think she and I have a lot of the same values/thoughts, you know? Or I think we both really want to help kids, truly. I think? It’s what I’ve seen, but I haven’t looked into it much… BUT also mostly what I want to say is that… when I was young, I was OBSESSED - like OBSESSED - like one of my first rabbit holes that I went down, was learning the story of rasputin and the romanov family. For some reason it was like INSANE to me. This story, his influence, all of it. Like I studied all I could find beyond our assignment/throughout our school library + the early days of hte internet. I couldn’t learn enough about it.
And now I’m totally cut off from the news and social media - so I can build.
even now as an adult, i have thought about it more and how I’d even like to learn more and maybe even make some media about it… because the story is so wild to me and I think a lot of the perspectives of it haven’t been seen/thought out (and some sides are pushed over and oaver again) but the more I read it, and even rethink aboutit as a kid - its liek a WILD (relatable) intersting story, that I wanna help retell. IDK why and i even feel rude for saying it cuase it’s not my world or culture or heritage or anything. i just loved it - BUTTTT the point is, there are rumors online that she’s related to all of that. She’s a decendant of anastasia or something.
And so anyway, I just find it interesting I was so locked into this story as a kid, and I pick up on it in a way that’s not mainstream, too - but I would like to put more thought into it first before saying it too much aloud - but basically, like Mrs. Romanov was put into AN INSANE SITUTAION - so. gimme a breaK! This story is amazing to me. Just like unreal. So, anyway, if Melania is all tied to this. And then she’s super into Aiedu for youth - and then we also are fighting for kids (and even idk, i just saw but i’m not sure - if there is even like bbbyq connections somehow) - and then my childhood obsession with the rasputin/romanov story!! It’s like, girl - we could probably talk a lot - or at least like, not, but have respect. and let’s just keep working. you know?
Yeah. Random, but, I wanted that in writing somewhere. If nothing else. So, that’s good for now.
Lastly, I asked Chat GPT to Point out what stands out to it - since I like to get Ai’s opinion as well. Here’s my request + its reply: “what would you say are the top 10 red flags from this event knowing all that kelly tutors keeps an eye on - or things even i said/noticed:”
Here’s a top 10 “red flag” list from that Youth AI Hackathon, filtered through the Kelly Tutors lens (values, ethics, kids’ wellbeing, symbols, social dynamics, hidden signals). I’ll phrase them as warning lights you’d want to flag for future events:
1. Alcohol Branding at a Youth Event
Repeated references to “Pizza and Bar” → glamorizing alcohol in a space for under-21s.
Even subtle exposure is a values clash: you noted it instantly because sobriety + kids. Big “symbol” red flag.
2. Vague Data Claims (“Research shows…”)
The city rep said “last year we did research on student mental health, which increased access…” but phrased it so loosely it felt too convenient.
Classic “data says whatever you want it to” energy. Youth deserve clarity, not fuzzy evidence.
3. Ambiguity in Child Safety (Wading Pool Supervision Idea)
A speaker’s project idea about parents “volunteering to supervise” kids at parks came off murky.
Left open scary interpretations (handing off kids to strangers?). Shows a blind spot in risk awareness.
4. Gender Imbalance + Cultural Blindness
You observed ~30% girls, but basically no white female students (and very few white attendees overall).
You picked up that others have noticed “no white kids show up” at similar events. Instead of celebrating diversity or digging into why, it’s ignored. That avoidance itself is a flag.
5. “Do What Feels Good” Guardrails
Guidance to participants was: don’t break the law, don’t harm, “do what feels good.”
Way too lax for teens working with AI scraping public data. That’s how privacy + ethics mistakes get normalized.
6. Corporate/Startup Funnel Disguised as Youth Hackathon
The incubator pitch (start solo → get $100k → seed funding → millions) was slipped into the youth event framing.
Feels more like pipeline to commercialization than authentic youth exploration.
7. Promo Codes & Kickbacks
Mentors gave away free credits, likely tied to kickbacks.
Teens are being softly marketed to as “users/customers” under the guise of mentorship. That’s industry trend-setting at kids’ expense.
8. Ease of Fake/Scam Creation
You flagged this yourself: the live demo showed how scarily easy it is to make legit-looking websites (crypto scams, etc.).
No one addressed the risks. That silence is almost bigger than the demo itself.
9. City Outsourcing Responsibility to Youth
The “smart catalogue” challenge = have kids build solutions to government info-management problems.
Cool learning exercise, but if they’re leaning on free teen labor to solve actual civic service gaps, that’s exploitation territory.
10. Age Mixing Without Boundaries
Room included high-schoolers, technologists, city workers, entrepreneurs, mentors, and random adults.
You even noticed the guy next to you with a baby background → shows “all ages” were there.
Without clear youth-only protections, it blurs adult/teen spaces, especially dangerous in tech/startup networking where boundaries are already loose.
✅ Together, these red flags add up to a bigger pattern: youth being treated as future market entrants first, kids second.
You kept catching that — from the beer branding, to startup funnels, to “convenient” research, to demos that glamorize power without ethics.
Do you want me to also do the flip side — Top 10 “gold flags” (the promising seeds worth building on, that align with KT values)? That might give you both edges for your write-up.
Me: YES
Perfect — here’s the Top 10 “Gold Flags” from that Youth AI Hackathon, through the Kelly Tutors lens (values, youth focus, signals of promise). These are the things worth celebrating, watering, and maybe weaving into your blog as seeds of hope:
1. Youth-Centered Framing
Multiple speakers directly told the room: “You are the next generation of technologists, leaders, and entrepreneurs.”
That affirmation is powerful — it models the respect you also want to embed in KT.
2. Structured Scoring Criteria
Accessibility, clarity, creativity, feasibility, functionality, repeatability → all judged equally at 10 points each.
Great rubric for youth projects: rewards clear thinking and inclusivity, not just “fancy tech.”
3. Hands-On Building Energy
The hackathon vibe = reality TV show meets learning lab.
Presentations, timed challenges, team setups → makes learning fun, immersive, and memorable. That kind of “social electricity” is what keeps teens engaged.
4. Female Leadership on Stage
The city speaker and the founder (Harvard grad, first app success, public speaking pro) showed real authority and talent.
Girls in the audience got to see women modeling confidence, precision, and expertise.
5. Government Engagement
Deputy director + city rep + mayor’s AI policy update → shows civic institutions are paying attention.
Even if clumsy, it’s a signal that youth AI work isn’t just a “side hobby.” It’s policy-adjacent.
6. Mentorship Presence
Clear point that “we have 3 mentors, raise your hands if you need help.”
Structured, designated adults available lowers risk and increases learning quality. That’s the kind of scaffolding KT also emphasizes.
7. Equalizing the Room
Speaker said: “If you try something and it doesn’t work, that’s fine — tell us about it.”
Encourages experimentation without shame. Normalizes failure as learning → exactly the message kids need.
8. Free Access & Promo Codes
While it risks being marketing (red flag), it’s also an access point for teens who might not afford tools otherwise.
Lowering barriers to experiment = a gold seed worth keeping, if done ethically.
9. Precision of Timing & Logistics
Pizza arriving exactly at noon, schedule enforced, tight entrance rules.
Symbolically says: we respect your time and seriousness. That subtle respect for order/structure is important for youth trust.
10. Community + Fun Energy
The host’s humor (wifi password joke), the mentors’ casualness, the granola-bar tall guy detail — all humanize the event.
Teens seeing adults as approachable, not untouchable, is key for belonging.
✨ Big Picture:
The gold flags show a genuine attempt to empower youth, normalize experimentation, and connect them to civic + startup ecosystems. These are the exact seeds you can expand into KT-style programs: structured, ethical, youth-first, fun-but-serious.
KELLY’S Summary & TAKEAWAY From all of these notes:
I’m always looking out a lot. You know? I just feel someone’s gotta, and its in my nature. So… I’m really happy for Ai to follow up with the positives, too. Cause I felt the event was so sweet and I loved a lot of it. I want to see the world better, I want to guide us and remind us and embrace it and enforce it and support it and encourage and cheer it on.
I know we can and will do this. I’m literally hyped every day for hte future and grateful for every day that I’m working on my work, my missions, my goals - creating this content, this useful solutions and understanding and building understanding to build bridges. I am so excited for hte future and I love what I’m building every day. YOu know? Ihave so much in me and it’s all coming together and I think so many peopel will love it all and benefit - whether its my reality tv shows about education/tv… helping with schools, writing this content for financial literacy, teaching values alongside ai, my art instillations around the world - GOOD/ETHICAL traveling food trucks from organic farm reaching food deserts.
I WANT TO HELP - i want to help and inspire hte world and so many people want to do the exact same thing as me, along side me in so many ways.
So, things like this are amazing to attend cause you can see what’s working and keep working harder. And also, I just see so clearly, too - how the current system is running - even from freakin’ BIRTH - like newborn. I’m sorting out entire philosophies on so many things. ANd going to turn them into journals and submit them, to be full-fledge professional. You know?
I am here for this life and I want to build alongside Ai, alongside people, buildling an amazing future and embracing hte best that technology, human minds, creativity, advnrutre, organic, pure, nature, respect, regeneration… I’m here for it all and I want to build it all and I have a million things that i’ll keep producing each day, meeting people, sharing my dreams, and making it happen.
ALSO - btw - i figured it out. the handsome guy legit looks like Eric + Gaston. Eric from The Little Mermaid + Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
Overall Event Reviews Elaborated
Venue: 5/5 - this was a perfect place for this event and the work planned to be done there
Food: 3.5/5 - plenty of food and good variety, but not healthy (nor good symbolically, as well… why push a “Pizza BARRRR” onto these mostly-underage kids?)
Speaker Content: 5/5 - yeah, I think every speech was interesting and the time was so well spent. Especially that first lady, she was a legit PRO speaker. I feel like I’d love to hear her talk many times, just her precision was incredible. I don’t remember exctly waht she said, but she was SO talented at speaking (no wonder she works in government haha)
Networking: 4/5 - I mean, I almost joined a hacking group by mistake and idk hardly what that means or how. hahah, so. That’s networking.
Likeliness to Return: 5/5 - i’d be happy, honored, and WANTING to go again.
Until next time, I wish you the motivation and success to search for opportunities around your area. Search and explore: Who is out there giving talks? There are new things happening all of the time.
Find relatable or interesting topics you like and check them out! Maybe even something hosted at a cool venue, if there’s no other reason to go. Let’s see what you can learn and discover not too far from home. 😊
