Plan it for the Nearly Ready Red Planet

It was a completely wild time arriving to this event today. My bus ride (last blog) here was pretty significant. After that, I walked a bit to get to my next location, sat down, and listened to some more talks.

Why Attend: I’m interested in learning a lot about technology, this event was fun last year… and… well, its WAY later that night of this event and I don’t even know what to say. Cause, reviewing these notes… it’s like um, what? hahahaha. And then - I went to the banquet later that night which was pretty awesome (but also lengthy in speeches, like last year, so that was predictable). Sooooo anyway.

Notes from The Event:

When i arrived I sat in the back of an auditorium.

  • The guys on stage are talking about their research center up in the Arctic doing analog research. THey have figured out it can be sustainable. THey have a book about it. THey need volunteers, smart people... it's not just a few people standing in front of you here. One of the things he wants to ask and make a call to... if you're interested in this, have something to share, please reach out.

  • ANd then the importance of the science at the station and what they jope it brings.

  • Ten an ai powered wellness tool could help track wellness. It did better than questionairres.

  • They had a good event on plastics and extracting auto (something)

  • They're passionate bout extracting knowledge and making sure it doesn't just stay in cirlces like this.

  • It's important that is getting transferred and communicated with local communities and working alongside to achieve that. It's important to have a local outreach meeting with the locals and hsare hte knowledge.

  • BUt now I really really wanna write about the conversation i overheard. It'll be the blog before this... cuase i'm going to stop writing bout their mars place (hahaha cause legit one day I may end up going and working there. or doing that 2 week volunteer thing. just to learn from it too - omg lets see though hahahah just cuase last year i was oopen to it and now i'm like. hm idk. maybe? hahaha maybe one day. so i'd rather more be a mystery a bit... and also i just wanna get this going. i'll start to write it now.)

  • Except that they said they didnt' have cold water in the past, but now they even have hot water. Now its so robust, stout. It doesn't shake in the wind. It has handled 25 years very well. It could go another 25 years or more with proper care.

  • So they need people to care for hte island and mission. An idaldn! idk about that hahaha. I thought it was in a random place in a nearby state lol. I guess they have a few places. Last year they were talking about a different one? IDK - lemme go write my thing.

  • This next guy makes a self deprecating joke about his accent, talks about how he graduated locally, and worked at NASA - and he works for a company that makes me side-eye.

  • THe name of them... so, yeah, i'll just work on my blog instead of write notes about this guy.

  • BROOOO the guy in charge of all of this just called out the leader cuase they like made a sample for billions of dollars then destroyed it. He's calling htem out for destroying samples that cost billions (is he calling them out for fraud? hahah i man, ihave no idea, i'm writing a whole other blog but i reacognize his oice--- okay he sad

    • OKAY< again are they planning on sterilizing the sample

    • i don't blieve so,i'm not the right none to ask

    • so why aretehy funding you to fund the sterilization of the sample?

    • he said thats the stereolization -

    • wait

    • okay - wait.

    • now he said, ohhhh we will not sterilize the sample, sorry for the confusion.

    • haha okay that was funny. so what? it was just like a big confusiong question? Well. Okay - idk what I just overheard and it seems it was just a miscommunication, but i just wanna say - it was funny to hear him call them out SOOOO intensely. Fearless. He was like, wait, that's pure stupididy (it sounded like in his voice, just my interpretation) and then - they eventually figured out - it was, yes. IT was miscommunication ahahhaha. SO yeah, that was a funny moment. But now they're all on the same page.

    • But the reason I'm a bit side-eye to this, too - is cause yesterday even this industry guy was pointing out the SAME THINGS the conspiracy people point out online about related companies - like how Katy Perry hardly ever looked out the window, was more focused on random stuff and playing with the camera, her and her team... and then also the fact there was the broken door. so now i'm like - omg!!! even the leader of tihs thing is questioning their legitimacy and spending, too??? but - turns out they're talking about something that makes sense and then passed his test again.hahah so,okay.lemme go.

    • OKAY the next speaker is on... now they're stuck putting the projector screen up - y mistake. She's speaking on zoom call but its sososoos so queit that you can't even hear her over my typing. LIke I have to stop typing to hear her. But from what I know, she doesn't really hold a job I'm a fan of, etc. So - yo uknow.Lemme kneep working on what I'm workign on and wait for them to fix this audio. Like now they put back down the projector and so you can't even hear her.

    • This is crazy, so much from this event is going wrong btw. Not to be rude but last week they had two or three speakers I was gonna see go drop out.

    • Now this - its just really different from last year. Okay - i'll keep writing my other blog.

    • Now again, the guy in charge of all of this asks what the budget is. and she says she'll tell wahts available in public domain. 100kw + electric system using breaking power to merging sysem (idk - i'll go back to the other blog hahaha, i just like the passion sometimes)

    • Now a high schooler from New Jersey is asking a question. Wow he traveled far to be here. lol.

    • Now i'm sitting during hte lunch break. The leadership is really proud of this turnout. 500 badges for this.

      • only 500 badges for MARS! the planet!?

  • A friend took me out to lunch and we chatted about him maybe moving to New Orleans. He had been really not interested in it in the past (worried about the heat) but I was gushing for almost the entire lunch over how much I like New Orleans.

  • Now this next conversation is a debate between having a new philosophy of governance on Mars, versus using Earth Governance among Mars.

  • Okay - Mars must rely on tested foundations ,fundamental human rights,... Earth has built a constitutional

    • (omg her talking is really like tough-paced and her accent is really tough to work with. And she is reading from a script, soits very unnatural and hard to follow along with what she is saying. IT's super scripted. but let me write him.)

    • Mars is not earth 2.0. Survival is collective, resoures are shared. Air and ater will be communal property. THis demands a new framework, adaptive governance... okay.

    • - i'm noticing that it's super hard to write and keep notes when they read off scripts. I usually don't have trouble taking notes.

  • Now she's still reading from a cript. They're both reading a sript on stage? I thoguth this would be - idk what. But its so hard to write. I don't know why/how to explain it. But they're not reading and speaking naturally... so its just really hard to write. Okay... well. Either I can go to the other speech, try to take notes, or keep working as I am. I think I want to keep working on my stuff... or maybe I'll go over to the other room, give it a try - and then here we go. I don't wan tto watch them read these scripts. Lemme go check out the other speeches and see if its live thoughts - this is just hard to listen to - they're talking about stuff.. liemme show you:

    • "if dissent and danger survival. it seems to me your model risks flying slidin into authoritarisinsm.

    • my model is ... jsut like ecosystems mocietys function bet with balance not absolutes (did Ai write this?? sounds like chat gpt

  • it sounds like you're proposing jj ... liquid democracy (which is ) uh... but allowe for a system that could adapt in real time. fix framed docuemnets -

  • but thats not law, thats just programming - okay. see. i just cant keep up with them. lemme go to the other one. and now this lady is reading her script too, the moderator. okay lemme go check out the other one.

  • and they ask if we've read or watched cetain media. kay - i'm heading out. lemm see the other speech. and if its not right, i'll just do work. Wait - one more question

  • What role should UN and such play -

Earth's international orgs offer oversight. ethical guidance in order to do so

  • i would argue theirs may be able to consult, but not control. must be self-determining

  • (OH i figured it out, its cause they read so quickly too. so its unnatural and quickly. i just cant keep up. thats good feedback for myself too)

  • i overhear ny times interview on my way to the bathroom/next room

he asks the guy... so- when mars? soon. never more ready.

nytimes guy asks: ppl not shy of political. penny for thought on musk. president. musk in community here.

guy says: spacex is bigger than musk. ppl cant b stopped.

    • a little later there’s a guy super eager to be interviewed, but the NYTimes guy said he’s so burnt out and needs a break. LOL these mars guys are excited to talk to press.

  • The next room I go into, they're having a meeting/presentation about the time to fly and fuel needed - but its like a zoom meting they're showing live. A speaker and then the people here you can see on screen, too.

  • What is the value in gojng to mars if we can't get a return on investments? Mar's simplest export is precious metal via asteroids. It has rare earth minerals.

  • Dang. I'm noticing now that I'm just not into this event. This has super loud air conditioning here. and so many people are wearing hearing aids. and even one guy is napping. Looks like 2 or 3 people re napping. Out of the audience of 14. Cause the guy is talking on zoom. So, I have to teach in 1.5 hours. I'll probably just prep for those. And in the next presentation I'll focus more, right? I mean, time well spent on this same goal: my website. But, I think I'll be more cautious to arrent this event so full fledge the year after - though maybe not. I mean, its cool and interesting. But also a little dull. AFARIK there are only 2 talks going on right now, right?

  • or am i in the wrong room! hahah I think i'm in the wrong room. Thats why. ohhh yeah, i'm in the wrong room 100% right now!!! i"m in a competition room. solving the cure for hunger on mars.

  • Omg i need to go to the other room. Okay - i'll stay here 10 more minutes till the break becuase i’m stuck in this desk in the back of the room and its so tight in here, no joke. like however tight you think it cold be back here with these seats… its tighter. . Then i'll go to either one on brewing coffee or artificial intelligence.

  • Now i just got myself locked into the wrong meeting. They're updating about their studies up in the arctic. My goal was to attend the one on congress. But, I heard that guy talk yesterday. They said they have no visual for us - their powerpoint isn't working.

  • BUt now the host interrupted him and said just to talk about your time onthe island. So he lives near me actually, and then you gota fly by a commercial airline, and then the further north you get - you have to find charter airlines (okay they're just talking travel logistics... so i'll keep working on my other blog haha) just like talking about gravel runways and stuff.

  • OMG they say this island is the 6th biggest island, uninhabited. Almost even looks like mars. It's a research station on the edge of a crader. 32M years old, 24KM across. Permafrost streams that go down into the crater.

  • None of these rocks have been kicked over for 32M years. So water and more granular is down below.

  • The terrain is vey mars-like. Polar bears are a very real part of life, that's another discussion. Polar Bear watch is a serious real consistent part of life for the population. We don't want to meet them, but if we do, we want to tell them.

  • We go because it looks like mars and its a unique opportunity to test technologies.

  • THis girl on stage has said she's a psychologist many times.

  • SHe says she ikes to look at welleing through confidnement. Historically this was done with questionairres, and that has a place. BUt it can get quote monotomous doing questionairres all the time. It becomes less useful and people start to answer the same thigns day in and day out - you don't get true reflection.

  • SHe wanted to bring an Ai powered tool - using vocal biomarkers to tell you how stressed, fatuiged, etc what you may need as a result. It just asks you to read a paragraph from the app. From that, it can detect with a high degree of accuracy.

  • It can determine depression and anxiety.

    - the host asks for some findings, but she says they're still testing.

  • OMG this guy was talking so much. While I blog, then suddenly a guy in the audience interrupts and says, "can anyone in the back hear him" (after this speech has been going on for 20 of 30 minutes!) and then people in teh back nod their heads. But... what a funny question to ask 20 minutes in out of a 30 minute speech!! And now the speaker does speak just a tiny bit louder - but he is vey quiet. Yeah.

  • WOw that's so crazy you lose hearing as you get older.\

  • Now this guy is talking about how he was carrying around a gun and something, sounds like he’s bragging and trying to sound cool about carriyng a gun for polar bears. Its an island up towards the north. ANd they say you can see her on the map there's a clearly an underground network of therman vents. THey found an oasis and got data. Got a lot of benefits from that.

  • Now they're taking questions and he is being recorded on video and he says, "we got a question over here? We've got so many hands up" - but no one was raising their hand. Makes me feel like he wanted that to be on camera - but I could see the girl he was relying on and right at that moment, she was taking a pic, not a video - so... you know? he will be chill. BUt then she went back to takeing a video. SHe's using two cameras to record this speech.

  • GEEZE now i wanted to go to another speech, but I went into the wrong one. This place is really disorganized. I feel rude leaving cause I talked to this guy yesterday during lunch... so, I'll just keep working on my blog. BUt this whole event is like 50/50 wrong blogs and people not showing up. But of course interesting stuff. Just really hard to find your way. THeir schedule has no room numbers on it - and then they keep moving rooms and stuff. ANd no labels for the speechs till you're already in.

  • Wait - what? no. he's running 8 minutes late in his speech? Im so confusedddd. Anyway, I'm surprised by this whole event. I didn't even attend like 50% of the speeches I wanted to attend. It's funny I wrote it all down before, cause we can even go back and look. My question for tomorrow, too - will be do I go watch skateboarding, or travel 2 hours there & back out of the way to learn more about Mars tomorrow? my fliht out is in the afternoon. SO I could get a focused-full day, try again... or do what I know works. Haha. I guess we will have to see what I end up doing, huh? Right now, I have no clue. Part of me is leaning back more towards Mars now, just cause I feel I got almost no information the entire day. So, what? More skateboarding or just go back to Mars, right? Let's see!! I didn't even visit the rose gardens again (though I'll walk by it on my walk to the banquet tonight) so... let's see!!

  • WOW now i'm going to have my class but i overheard they have to call security because of someting with a broken elevator and she frantically asked, "if someone can go sit with him" - they said the air conditioner isn't working and they didn't think it'd be so hot. I hear someone else on the phone. Wow yeah, he said there is a crisis. Somebody is stuck in the elevator.

After that, I walked over to the rose garden, and then finally to the dinner banquet - which was totally (idk the word even) - amazing, crazy, dull, wonderful, underutilized, great, everything
